The Indian cricket team’s 2-0 Test series victory over Bangladesh has significantly boosted its World Test Championship qualification chances. India currently sits second in the points table, with only a four-match series against Australia remaining before the WTC final next year. After losing to New Zealand in the WTC final the previous cycle, the Indian team has a great opportunity to make things right this time. They still have a few obstacles to overcome before their progression to the final is confirmed.

World Test Championship Final Scenarios for India Cricket team

If Rohit Sharma’s team defeats Australia 4-0 in their upcoming test series which will start on 9th February in Nagpur, the Indian team will be guaranteed a spot in the WTC final. With a PCT of 68.06%, such a result would guarantee India’s place in the final, regardless of the results of the other contenders.

If India defeats Australia 3-1 or 3-0, their PCT will be 62.50%. This amount would also be sufficient for them to advance without relying on other results.

In the event of a 2-0 or 1-0 result to Australia, the Indian team’s winning percentage would be 60.65%. Once again, such a total is likely to be sufficient for India to qualify for the final. But it would depend on other results also.

The Australia tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will undergo in Nagpur from the 9th of February. This will be the first test between India and Australia after the famous Gabba test match which was regarded as one of the best test match ever played. India and Australia will then play the next three Test matches in Delhi, Dharamsala & Ahmedabad. This will also be the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a four-match Test series feature.
