Hardik Pandya is going to replace Rohit Sharma as the full-time T20 captain for the Indian cricket team. It is confirmed that BCCI is going to announce this before the T20 series versus Sri Lanka. It’s a big decision which many cricket experts have already asked for. Currently, Pandya is leading the Indian cricket team against the Kiwi side in the ongoing T20 series. It is very likely that Hardik Pandya is India’s choice for the captain for the next T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in 2024. A BCCI official confirmed the news via Insider Sport.
Here’s what we know so far about Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as the T20 Captain:
BCCI official in his statement to Insider Sport said, “See the consensus is there that now is the time to change. All of us feel Rohit Sharam first of all still has lot to offer but at the same time he has too much on his plate. And mind it, he is not getting any younger. For the T20 World CUP 2024, we need to prepare now. Hardik is right fit for the role. Selectors will meet and officially announce Hardik as India’s captain before next T20 assignment.”
Further, when Insider Sport asked whether Rohit Sharma is aware of this imminent decision the source confirmed that “No not yet. They have just returned. We will soon call coach, captain for the meeting and have a word.”
What do you think? Is it the right time to let go of Rohit Sharma in the T20s?
