Star commentator Harsha Bhogle has suggested that the Indian cricket team’s former captain Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma should play in the Ranji Trophy starting on the 24th instead of the final One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand. Bhogle believes that both players need to practice red-ball cricket before the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
Kohli and Sharma were not selected for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, and are set to return to the team for the Test series against Australia after participating in the ongoing 50-over games.
Here’s what Harsha Bhogle actually tweeted:
In the first ODI against New Zealand, Rohit scored 34 runs, while Virat scored only 8.
The idea of playing in the Ranji Trophy would provide both players with an opportunity to get in some red-ball practice and adjust to the different format before the forthcoming Test series against Australia.
