Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team won the T20 World Cup 2024 title last month. In the final match played on June 29 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs. The Indian team won the T20 World Cup for the second time; the first victory was in the 2007 season.

After India’s title win, captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20 Internationals. Following his retirement from T20 Internationals, there is now speculation about his ODI and Test career. Rohit Sharma is over 37 years old, raising questions about how many more years he will play international cricket. Rohit has been on a break since winning the World Cup in the West Indies and will not play in the three ODIs against Sri Lanka.

“I’m not thinking that far ahead…”

However, Rohit has now made it clear that he is not planning to retire anytime soon, and fans will still see him playing. During an event in Dallas on Sunday, Rohit was asked about his retirement plans. The Indian captain said he does not think too far ahead but still has a lot left to offer. Rohit stated, “I just said it. I don’t think that far ahead. So, certainly, you will see me playing for some time.”

Rohit Sharma had announced his retirement from T20 cricket after leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title. Just before him, Virat Kohli had retired from T20 Internationals, followed by Ravindra Jadeja. Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had stated that Rohit would remain India’s captain for the current World Test Championship cycle and the Champions Trophy in February-March next year. Rohit captained India in the T20 World Cup 2022, where England defeated them in the semi-finals, and a year later, Australia defeated India in the final of the 50-over World Cup. Under Rohit’s captaincy, India secured the title in the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and the USA.

Rohit, who debuted in T20 International cricket in 2007, holds the unique distinction of being the only Indian cricketer to have played in every T20 World Cup held so far. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit scored 257 runs in 8 matches, the highest for an Indian player.

So far, Rohit Sharma has scored 4137 runs at an average of 45.46 in 59 Test matches. In 262 ODIs, the Hitman has scored 10,709 runs at an average of 49.12. In his T20 International career, Rohit has scored 4231 runs in 159 matches. Rohit also has 12 wickets in international cricket. In IPL 2024, Rohit scored 417 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 150 and an average of 32.08. In total, Rohit has scored 6628 runs in 257 IPL matches with an average of 29.72 and a strike rate of 131.14.
