Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar said goodbye to international cricket in 2013. Sachin Tendulkar, who started his international career in 1989, made many batting world records in his career of 24 years. Out of which, most runs in International Cricket, most centuries in International Cricket (100 centuries), most centuries in Test Cricket, most runs in Test Cricket, most runs in ODI International, most ODI International matches played, most Test matches played, all these records are still in the name of Sachin Tendulkar.
The record of most ODI International centuries was broken by Virat Kohli during the 2023 World Cup. Virat Kohli has 50 ODI centuries to his credit, while Sachin Tendulkar had scored a total of 49 ODI centuries. Now Sachin’s two Test records are under threat, but this threat is not from Virat but from Joe Root. The way former England captain and dashing batsman Joe Root has been playing Test cricket for the last four years, it seems that in a few years he will break Sachin’s world record. Sri Lanka in England, 3 Test series, 2024
A Test match is being played between England and Sri Lanka at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Joe Root was dismissed for 143 on the first day of the match. This was Root’s 33rd century in Test cricket. Sachin has 51 Test centuries to his credit. Root is now 18 centuries behind Sachin. The gap of 18 centuries may seem big, but if we look at Root’s recent form, then this gap will not seem so much. Root had 17 Test centuries to his credit till 2020 and now has 33 Test centuries. Root has scored 16 centuries in the last four years, so if his form remains intact, he can break this record of Sachin in the coming four-five years.

Now let’s talk about the highest runs in Test cricket, Sachin is at the top of this list with 15,921 runs, and Root is at number seven with 12,274 runs. Root will have to score 3648 more Test runs to break Sachin’s record. Between Sachin and Root come the names of Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Alistair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara, all of whom have retired from international cricket. Root is currently 33 years old and is concentrating completely on Test cricket, so his chances of breaking Sachin’s record increase even more.
