Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has warned Rohit Sharma’s team to be cautious against Bangladesh in their upcoming two-match Test series. Bangladesh comes into the series with confidence after their historic 2-0 series win in Pakistan. India will kick off their home season against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19-23, followed by the second Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

Gavaskar highlighted the threat posed by Bangladesh, noting their recent success. “By defeating Pakistan in both Tests on their home turf, Bangladesh has proven they are a formidable team. Even a few years ago, India faced a tough challenge from Bangladesh. Now, with their recent series win, they are ready to challenge India as well.”

He praised Bangladesh’s improved performance and the emergence of promising players who are no longer intimidated by their opponents. “Teams now know they can’t underestimate Bangladesh, as Pakistan discovered. This series will definitely be exciting,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.

The two Tests are part of the 2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle, where India currently leads the table with 68.52 percentage points, while Bangladesh is fourth with 45.83 percentage points. This series marks the beginning of a demanding 10-match Test season for India, which also includes a three-match Test series against New Zealand from October to November.

Following this, India will travel to Australia for the crucial five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, aiming to secure a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final at Lord’s from June 11 to 15 next year.
