Rohit Sharma Creates This Unique Record of Sixes in Test Cricket

Indian captain Rohit Sharma may have retired from T20 International cricket, but his fans have not let him feel it. He played an explosive knock in Test cricket, similar to a T20 innings, and set a new record. Rohit Sharma became the first-ever opener in the world to hit two sixes off the first two balls of his innings. He achieved this feat during the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, smashing two consecutive sixes in the second over. Despite playing a short but fiery knock, he made a significant record.

Rohit Sharma joined the elite group of players who have hit two sixes off the first two balls in a Test innings. However, he is the first opener to do so, while the other three players on this list batted in the middle or lower order. The list includes Foffie Williams, Sachin Tendulkar, and Umesh Yadav. Williams achieved this feat in 1948 against Jim Laker, while Sachin hit two sixes against Nathan Lyon in 2013. Umesh Yadav did the same against George Linde in 2019.

Known as the “Hitman,” Rohit Sharma showcased his aggressive batting style, scoring 23 runs off just 11 balls, which included 1 four and 3 sixes, with a strike rate of 209.09. Although his innings was brief, it provided a quick start for the team, which was crucial since the match had already lost two days due to bad weather, and only 35 overs were played on the first day because of rain. The Indian team is now aiming to post a big score and bowl out Bangladesh again to secure a result in this Kanpur Test.
