Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley has announced his resignation after five years in the role and will step down in March 2025 at the end of the current season.

According to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird and other directors informed Hockley that he was not considered a long-term option as CEO, but offered him the opportunity to leave on amicable terms. Hockley confirmed his intention to step down after discussions with Baird and the board.

“This was a difficult decision,” Hockley told the newspaper. “However, with our five-year strategic plan well underway and a promising summer ahead, now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge while allowing the board ample time to find the next CEO to build on the strong foundations we’ve established.”

Despite his upcoming departure, Hockley stressed that his current focus remains on the season ahead, including India’s upcoming five-Test series against Australia. “This is not the time for goodbyes,” he said. “I’m fully committed to supporting the board on a smooth transition and succession process.”
