Harry Brook is considered one of England’s future star batsmen. Many current and former England cricketers have praised his talent. However, he has yet to deliver a strong performance in India, whether in the IPL or international cricket. In the ongoing five-match T20 series, Brook has struggled in the first two matches, getting dismissed easily. He scored 17 runs in the first T20 and 13 in the second. Now, Indian cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri have taken a dig at him.
Brook scored 17 runs off 14 balls in the first T20 and 13 runs off eight balls in the second T20. On both occasions, he was clean-bowled by India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. After getting bowled in the first match, Brook claimed that he couldn’t read the ball due to fog in Kolkata. He said that if the match had been in Chennai, where there is no smog, he would have been able to read the ball better. However, when the second T20 was played in Chennai, Chakravarthy once again bowled Brook clean.

Shastri and Gavaskar wasted no time in mocking Brook’s excuse. When Brook came out to bat, Shastri, who was commentating live, sarcastically remarked, “Good news for Harry Brook, there is no smog here.” Later, when Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Brook again in the seventh over, Gavaskar humorously added, “The lights are clear here. No smog at all.”
India won the first T20 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata by seven wickets. In the second T20, Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl first. England posted 165 for nine in 20 overs. In response, Tilak Varma played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 72 runs off 55 balls, including four fours and five sixes. His innings helped India chase down the target, scoring 166 for eight in 19.2 overs, securing a two-wicket win and a 2-0 lead in the series.
