Australia opener Usman Khawaja has hit a roadblock on his way to India for the highly-anticipated four-match Test series, as he is yet to receive his visa. The Pakistan-born batter is the only player in the squad who couldn’t board the flight, leaving cricket fans across the world disappointed.
Taking to social media, Khawaja shared a meme of himself waiting for his Indian visa, captioning it, “Me waiting for my Indian visa like…#stranded #dontleaveme #standard #anytimenow.”
Despite the setback, Cricket Australia remains hopeful, expecting the visa to arrive later today. The 36-year-old, who was recently named Australia’s Men’s Test Player of the Year, will catch a flight to India tomorrow, if all goes as planned.
With the first Test scheduled to begin on February 9 in Nagpur, fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Khawaja makes it to India in time to take the field. The opener was in top form last year, scoring 1,020 runs at an average of 78.46, and will play a crucial role in the series.
