The International League T20 (ILT20) has stirred controversy with its decision to impose a 12-month ban on Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad for breaching his Player Agreement with the Sharjah Warriors, the franchise that had signed him for Season 1 of the tournament. This decision comes after Noor’s refusal to sign a retention notice for Season 2, despite being offered an extension by the Warriors.
Noor Ahmad, who represented Sharjah Warriors in Season 1 of the ILT20 held between January and February 2023, found himself embroiled in a contractual dispute when he declined to commit to the franchise for another year. In response, the Warriors sought intervention from the ILT20 to resolve the matter.

A three-member Disciplinary Committee, comprising ILT20’s Chief Executive Officer David White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam, and Member of Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas, was tasked with investigating the dispute. After conducting thorough inquiries and hearing from both parties involved, namely Noor Ahmad and the Sharjah Warriors, the committee reached a final decision to impose a 12-month ban on the spinner.
Initially, the committee had recommended a more stringent 20-month ban. However, considering Noor’s status as a minor at the time of signing the Player Agreement and his claim that his agent had not fully informed him of the contract’s terms, the committee decided to mitigate the punishment by pardoning eight months from the original ban duration.
The decision to ban Noor Ahmad underscores the ILT20’s commitment to upholding the integrity of player contracts and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. By penalizing breaches of Player Agreements, the league aims to maintain transparency, fairness, and professionalism in its operations.
