Despite the coinciding general elections in April and May, the entire season will be held in India, according to league chairman Arun Dhumal. While the specific schedule for the entire tournament has not been unveiled yet, the IPL organizers plan to release the initial schedule covering the first 15 days of the competition. The remaining fixtures will be decided after the announcement of the general election dates, expected early next month.

The IPL has a history of adapting to challenging circumstances, including holding the entire tournament overseas in 2009 (South Africa) and partially in the UAE in 2014 due to the general elections. However, in 2019, the IPL successfully took place in India despite the elections, showcasing the league’s ability to navigate complex logistical and operational challenges.

With the T20 World Cup scheduled to begin shortly after the IPL’s conclusion, the final match of the IPL 2024 season is expected to take place on May 26. This timeline allows players participating in the IPL to seamlessly transition to the global tournament, with India opening their World Cup campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5.

The IPL 2024 season promises to be an exciting affair, with the opening match set to feature last year’s finalists, the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans. The recent players’ auction saw Australian pacer Mitchell Starc become the most expensive player in IPL history, after being bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping INR 24.75 crore.
