Asia Cup 2023: PCB Gives Ultimatum to BCCI

The Indian governing body is adamant that the entire tournament be relocated out of Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, is not caving in to the BCCI's pressure.

The Asia Cup 2023 is still in limbo, with no decision made at the BCCI SGM in Ahmedabad on Saturday. As the Board of Control for Cricket in India has pushed the decision to hold an ACC meeting next week following the IPL 2023 Final, the Pakistan Cricket Board has issued an ultimatum, “Accept our hybrid model or we will boycott Asia Cup.”

The PCB chief had to go to great lengths to persuade Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh to join them in their fight against the BCCI. The sticking point, however, is Pakistan’s hosting rights for the BCCI.

PCB’s earlier threat to boycott Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 remains in effect. The PCB has sent a clear message that if the Asia Cup does not take place in Pakistan, Babar Azam and company will not participate in the tournament.

The fate of Pakistan’s World Cup participation will also be decided by the Pakistani government, which is not a friend of the Indian government.
