The three-match Test series between West Indies and Australia has begun. Australia, who recently lost the ICC World Test Championship 2025 final, got off to a poor start in the opening Test as they were bowled out for just 180 runs. Although Travis Head scored a half-century, the team failed to post a big total. On the first day of the ongoing match in Barbados, a total of 14 wickets fell — 10 of Australia and 4 of the host team West Indies. Clearly, a thrilling contest is underway in Barbados.

In this match, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the decision backfired quickly as Australia lost three wickets for just 22 runs. Usman Khawaja and Travis Head then built a partnership, taking the score past 110. But Khawaja fell for 47, triggering another collapse. Travis Head managed to score 59 runs before getting out. The entire team was dismissed for 180. Jayden Seales was the star with the ball, claiming 5 wickets.

West Indies then came out to bat but didn’t start well either, losing their first two wickets for just 16 runs. A small partnership followed, pushing the score past 50, but by the end of the day’s play, West Indies had lost 4 wickets for 57 runs. They now trail Australia by 123 runs. If the pitch continues to behave the same way on Day 2, we might see another flurry of wickets. This match marks the beginning of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle for both teams.
