Star batsman Prithvi Shaw was once considered the next big superstar of Indian cricket, but today, he is nowhere near the national team. He is even struggling to secure a spot in his domestic side. During the Ranji Trophy, he was dropped from Mumbai’s playing XI, and a few months later, he wasn’t picked for the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad either. Several cricketing legends have voiced concerns about his career in recent months. Now, after a long silence, Prithvi Shaw has finally opened up about his downfall, admitting that he lost focus.
Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut in 2018 and scored 134 runs in his first innings. At the time, then-coach Ravi Shastri had said that Shaw was a blend of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Virender Sehwag. However, in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shaw went unsold and no team picked him even as a replacement afterward.

In an interview with News24, Shaw said, “There are many things because I know what really happened. I can understand it now. I’ve made many wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I used to practice a lot before. For example, I would bat in the nets for 3-4 hours without getting tired. I would spend half the day on the ground. I admit, I got distracted.”
He further added, “After that, I started giving importance to things that weren’t really important. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top then, friendships also happen. Then they started dragging me here and there. All that happened, and I lost track. I used to practice for 8 hours on the ground, but now it has come down to 4.”
