Gus Atkinson’s cricketing journey has been marked by significant milestones and achievements:

He made his first-class debut for Surrey on August 8, 2020, in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy, signaling the beginning of his professional cricket career. Following this, he ventured into Twenty20 cricket, making his debut in the 2020 t20 Blast on August 28, 2020, again representing Surrey. His List A debut came on July 22, 2021, for Surrey in the 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup, further solidifying his presence across different formats of the game.

In April 2022, Atkinson’s talents caught the attention of the Oval Invincibles, who acquired him for the 2022 season of The Hundred. His contributions were instrumental in Surrey’s victory in the 2022 County Championship, showcasing his prowess as a cricketer. Following his successful stint, Atkinson was retained by the Oval Invincibles for the 2023 season of The Hundred.

On September 18, 2023, Atkinson further cemented his commitment to Surrey by signing a new multi-year contract extension, demonstrating his loyalty to the club.

In the international arena, Atkinson’s stellar performances earned him his first senior call-up for England on August 16, 2023, for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. His T20I debut on September 1, 2023, against New Zealand was nothing short of spectacular, as he recorded figures of 4/20, the best figures by an England men’s bowler on T20I debut.

Following his breakthrough summer, Atkinson’s talent was recognized once again as he was named in the England squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India on September 17, 2023. His crucial wicket of Babar Azam in the game against Pakistan further highlighted his impact on the international stage.

Overall, Gus Atkinson’s journey from domestic cricket to international recognition exemplifies his skill, dedication, and potential to make significant contributions to English cricket in the years to come.
