He made his first-class debut for Surrey on August 8, 2020, in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy, signaling the beginning of his professional cricket career. Following this, he ventured into Twenty20 cricket, making his debut in the 2020 t20 Blast on August 28, 2020, again representing Surrey. His List A debut came on July 22, 2021, for Surrey in the 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup, further solidifying his presence across different formats of the game.
In April 2022, Atkinson’s talents caught the attention of the Oval Invincibles, who acquired him for the 2022 season of The Hundred.
