Shamar Joseph’s cricketing journey is a testament to perseverance and the invaluable support of mentors and teammates. It was Romario Shepherd who first recognized Joseph’s talent and introduced him to the Guyana cricket team. Under the guidance of Esuan Crandon, the head coach of Guyana, and with encouragement from senior players like Leon Johnson, Joseph found his footing in the cricketing world.

Former Guyanese cricketer turned businessman, Damion Vantull, played a pivotal role in Joseph’s career by urging him to pursue cricket full-time, leaving behind his job as a security guard. Joseph wasted no time in proving his mettle, delivering impressive performances in Division 1 cricket, including a remarkable debut figure of 6/13.

Attending a fast bowling clinic led by the legendary Curtly Ambrose further honed Joseph’s skills. His standout performance, taking eight wickets in a trial game, caught the attention of selectors, earning him a call-up to first-class cricket.

Representing the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) Sports Club in Georgetown in club cricket, Joseph continued to showcase his talent, catching the eye of the Guyana Harpy Eagles. Despite being uncapped and inexperienced at the professional level, Joseph made his first-class debut for Guyana in February 2023, making an immediate impact with his maiden five-wicket haul against Windward Islands.

Joseph’s journey took a significant turn when he was enlisted as a net bowler for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). His determination and skill impressed Prasanna Agoram, the talent scout for the team, who played a pivotal role in Joseph’s inclusion in the squad as an injury replacement. Joseph’s stellar performance in the CPL, despite limited opportunities, earned him recognition as one of the key members of the championship-winning Guyana Amazon Warriors side.

Making his List A debut for Guyana in the 2023–24 Super50 Cup, Joseph continued to impress with his bowling prowess. His consistent performances caught the attention of selectors, leading to his inclusion in the West Indies A side for their tour of South Africa.

In a significant move, Joseph was picked by Peshawar Zalmi during the 2024 Pakistan Super League players draft, highlighting his growing reputation as a promising fast bowler on the international stage.
