Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has officially withdrawn from IPL 2025. The Delhi Capitals had signed Starc for a hefty sum of ₹11.75 crore, but following a break of around 10 days due to the India-Pakistan conflict, the left-arm pacer has refused to return to India. His reason for pulling out is the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final. Australia will face South Africa in the WTC final starting June 11 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Starc has chosen to prioritise national duty over the IPL.
Now the big question is—will Mitchell Starc’s salary be affected for leaving midway through the season? The answer is yes. According to Cricket.com.au, if Delhi Capitals reach the final of IPL 2025, Starc will have to forgo one-third of his total salary.
This means Starc could lose around ₹3.92 crore, reducing his IPL 2025 earnings to approximately ₹7.83 crore.

Mitchell Starc played a crucial role for Delhi Capitals this season. In 11 matches, he claimed 14 wickets. His absence in the playoffs—if Delhi qualifies—could be a big blow to the team, as he could have been a key player in the knockout stage. Last season, he proved his worth for KKR during the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals’ Playoff Scenario
Delhi Capitals are currently placed fifth on the points table with 13 points from 11 matches. To qualify for the playoffs, they must win at least two of their remaining three matches. If they lose two, their chances will depend on the outcomes of other teams’ matches.
