Shubman Gill is warming the bench in the ongoing India vs Australia Test Series. There is a lot of noise about Gill not getting any chances despite KL Rahul not performing well in the international cricket in recent times. Venkatesh Prasad has come out in support of Gill and Sarfaraz Khan, who are not getting any chances, while KL Rahul is getting one after another opportunity despite being ordinary in Test cricket.
There is a section of Indian cricket fans who are not happy with the Indian cricket team management’s decision to pursue with KL Rahul as the opener in the ongoing Test series against Australia. He has failed miserably in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, and Mark Waugh has called the approach of KL as very defensive. He even said that Rahul is afraid of losing his wicket and is batting, not batting, with an attacking approach.

Cricketing experts are saying that KL Rahul needs rest to reassess his game in the Test cricket. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, is in great form. He recently notched up a double century in Test cricket and even scored a century in T20Is as well. The squad that has been announced for India vs Australia 3rd Test match does not name KL Rahul as the vice captain.
There are huge chances that Shubman Gill may replace KL Rahul as the opener in the 3rd Test against Australia.
