IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2024: Rajkot Stadium Pitch Report Today Match

The pitches at the Rajkot Stadium have been favorable to batting during the initial days, gradually favoring spinners as the match progresses, typical of wickets in the region. Historically, they’ve also offered some assistance to fast bowlers.

For the upcoming IND vs ENG Test, a slow-turning pitch is anticipated rather than one with extreme spin. Kuldeep Yadav, who excelled with a five-wicket haul in the last Test at the venue, will be eager to bowl here alongside R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who hails from Saurashtra.

In the previous Test at the venue, India secured victory by an innings and 272 runs against West Indies, with Kuldeep and Ashwin starring with the ball.

In the two Tests played so far, the team batting first has won once. Captains winning the toss have often elected to bat first to capitalize on the favorable batting conditions initially.

India’s strategy may involve fielding all four spin options if the pitch is expected to favor slow turn, considering the success of their three-spinner strategy in the past.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test 2024: Rajkot Stadium Test Records & Stats

The Rajkot Stadium has hosted two Test matches so far, with India emerging victorious in one encounter, while the other ended in a draw. Notably, no visiting team has managed to secure a win on this ground yet. In matches won by batting first, India has been dominant, clinching victory on such occasions.

In terms of team performances, the highest team total recorded at the venue stands at an impressive 649/9, achieved by India against West Indies in 2018. Conversely, the lowest team total witnessed was 181 all out by West Indies against India in the same year. These contrasting scores reflect the fluctuating nature of matches at the Rajkot Stadium.

Statistical averages provide further insight into the pitch conditions. The average 1st innings score is notably high at 593, indicating favorable batting conditions early on. However, as the match progresses, the average scores for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings decrease, suggesting increasing difficulty for batsmen as the game wears on.

Individual performances have also left their mark on the stadium’s history. Virat Kohli’s magnificent 139-run innings against West Indies in 2018 remains the highest individual score recorded at the venue. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive bowling performance of 5 for 57 against the same opposition in the same year stands as the best bowling innings.

In terms of milestones, the Rajkot Stadium has witnessed a total of 6 fifties and 9 centuries across its two Test matches. Ravindra Jadeja leads the sixes tally with 6, while Cheteshwar Pujara tops the fours chart with 33 boundaries.

Bowling-wise, R Ashwin has been the most successful bowler at the venue, claiming 9 wickets in just 2 matches. Kuldeep Yadav’s memorable five-wicket haul in one innings adds to the bowling highlights of the stadium. Overall, the Rajkot Stadium has proven to be a stage for thrilling cricketing battles, marked by both individual brilliance and team dominance.
