The IPL 2025 auction took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Over the two-day event, 182 players were successfully sold, with 10 teams collectively spending ₹639.15 crore. The auction gave the 10 IPL teams the opportunity to rebuild their squads for the next three seasons. This year’s mega auction saw Indian players dominating the market, with all of the top-5 most expensive players being from India.
The Impact of 15 Players
An interesting statistic emerged after this auction. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team had won the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year, defeating South Africa in the final held in Barbados. Of the 15 players from that team, many will now be seen in the IPL. Some were retained before the auction, while others attracted big bids during the event. Interestingly, all the players from the T20 World Cup-winning squad, after retention and auction, have IPL salaries of over ₹10 crore.
