IPL 2022: A Big Blow For Gujarat Titans Ahead of Season

Gujarat Titans have to face a big blow before the start of the season as their marquee player pulls out of the IPL 2022. Jason Roy, England’s star batsman has decided to pull out of the IPL 2022 due to bubble fatigue. As mentioned by Jason Roy, he has decided not to take part in this year’s IPL due to the extended bubble environment.

Jason Roy was bought by Gujarat Titans in the IPL mega auction 2022 at his base price of 2 crores. This is the second such instance where the player has withdrawn from the IPL. The first was in 2020 when Delhi Capitals had bought him for his base price of 1.5crores.

The players have played in a bubble environment for a long and thus, they require time off for their physical and mental health. Considering, the mega events lined up ahead like T20 World Cup in October in Australia, players need to manage their workload.

Jason Roy represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 season for 5 matches where he collectively scored 150 runs for the team. However, Jason Roy had a memorable season in Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators. He played 6 matches for the franchise and emerged as the top run-scorer for his team. He averaged around 51 with an astounding strike rate of 171.

His form in Pakistan Super League did excite the Gujarat Titans who believed him to be a perfect and lethal opening partner with Shubhman Gill. However, Gujarat Titans have to face this major blow right before the tournament.

Jason Roy announced this news via his Twitter and had already informed the Gujarat franchise a week before. Jason Roy penned a note for the franchise and thanked captain Hardik Pandya for showing faith in his capabilities.

The tournament is scheduled to be played from 26th March 2022 to 29th May 2022. With the addition of two new franchises, the tournament will be played in a format similar to the 2011 IPL when Kochi Tuskers and Pune Warriors were introduced. The 10 teams are divided into two groups of 5 teams each. Moreover, 55 matches will be played in Mumbai and 15 matches in Pune. Know all about IPL 2022  schedule here.
