MI vs CSK at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai was a last-ball thriller that saw MS Dhoni pull off a miracle ending for Chennai Super Kings. With 17 required off the last over and no other established batter other than MS Dhoni left on the crease, CSK could only hope for the finisher in Dhoni to rise again and win it for them. Dhoni did exactly that and two fours and a six to ensure CSK’s 2nd victory in the ongoing tournament.

    MI vs CSK Highlights:

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ravindra Jadeja revealed that Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan had been omitted from the playing XI for Mitchell Santner and Dwaine Pretorius. Mumbai also changed its playing XI by bringing Hrithik Shokeen and Daniel Sams into the game against CSK.

    MI Inning:

Mumbai again had a horrible start, with both openers failing to register even a single run on the board. Mukesh Chaudhary removed Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the first over itself to crush Mumbai’s hopes. Chaudhary made a further dent in MI’s camp by dismissing the young-gun Dewald Brevis on 4.

MI was left tottering at 23/3 and needed a big partnership to pull them through. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav tried forging a stand, but Santner dismissed Yadav at the individual score of 32 to provide CSK with another breakthrough.

The debutant Hrithik Shokeen was sent ahead of Kieron Pollard to somehow survive in the middle with Tilak. Hrithik scored an impressive 25 off 25 in a pressure situation. Pollard could not stay on the crease for long and only managed 14 off 9. Some late bursts from Tilak Varma and Jaydev Unadkat ensured that MI crossed the 150-run mark. Tilak remained unbeaten on 51* 43 and Unadkat on 19* off 9.

MI finished on 155/7 in their 20 overs vs CSK.

    CSK Inning:

Ruturaj Gaikwad got dismissed on the first ball of CSK’s inning. Also, Mitch Santner did not last long, and CSK was suddenly 16 for 2 wickets in 2.3 overs. Rayudu and Uthappa had a 50-run stand for the 3rd wicket and ensured that CSK stayed in the game vs MI.

Robin Uthappa scored 30 off 25, while Ambati Rayudu notched up 40 off 35. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja could not continue the flow set by the two right-handers, and CSK stumbled a bit in the death overs.

With Pretorius and Dhoni on the crease, CSK required 42 off the last 3 overs. Few hits from Pretorius against Undakat and Bumrah in the 18th and 19th over ensured that CSK had a fighting chance in the last over. However, Unadkat removed Pretorius on the first ball in the last over, and it was all on Dhoni to win it for CSK by his yet another Herculean effort in the last over of IPL.
