The online streaming rights of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 have been bought by Viacom18, and it seems that JioCinema is going to broadcast all the IPL 2023 matches for free in over 10 languages. A recent report by Exchange 4 Media claimed this news.
The Board of Cricket Council of India held the IPL 2023 media rights action this year, and Viacom18 turned out to be the biggest bidder. It seems that Viacom18 has decided to premier the IPL 2023 matches live for free on JioCinema in an attempt to widen its viewership range.
JioCinema also broadcasted the FIFA World Cup 2022 for free, and there were many complaints about the interface of the digital streaming platform. However, Viacom18 is likely proceeding with JioCinema to air IPL 2023 live matches in over 10 languages for free.
Until 2022 the Indian Premier League was broadcasted online on Disney+ Hotstar as part of their plan, which cost about Rs 150 per month. JioCinema’s decision to broadcast IPL 2023 for free will likely boost the viewership of IPL and also the JioCinema app. It can be termed a great marketing move by JioCinema.
Also, the IPL 2023 matches are probably going to be broadcasted in over 10 languages, including Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, Malayalam and more.
