After being called in to bat, Green (64 not out off 40 balls) and Tilak Varma (37 off 17 balls) led the Mumbai Indians to a daunting 192 for five. With the odd ball not falling on to the bat, it was difficult to get the boundaries right away, but the Sunrisers recovered from a mediocre powerplay to take the game deep, thanks to opener Mayank Agarwal (48 off 41) and Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 16). In the end, they were all out for 178 in 19.5 overs, their third loss in five games.

While Agarwal scored some crucial runs, it was Klaasen’s knock that placed Mumbai under pressure. In a 21-run victory, the South African went after veteran leggie Piyush Chawla, reverse sweeping him for four and six. Sunrisers need 60 from the final 30 balls, and Marco Jansen (13 off 6) and Washington Sundar (10 off 6) kept the game intriguing with a succession of boundaries before the latter paid the price for careless racing between the wickets.

Tendulkar delivered two overs with the new ball in his second IPL game before returning to bowl the high-pressure final over with Sunrisers needing 20 runs. Tendulkar decided to bowl full and wide and was successful for his team. In the process, he grabbed his first IPL wicket.
