IPL 2024 Auction: Most Expensive Player Ever Back in the Auction

According to Cricbuzz reports, Sam Curran, the highly valued English all-rounder, is set to be released by Punjab Kings following a subpar performance in IPL 2023. Despite being the costliest player in IPL history, bought for 18.5 crore, his release comes as a surprise given his potential as an asset with versatile skills.

There’s speculation that Sam Curran might find a place again with Punjab Kings in the 2024 auction, potentially at a reduced price. The auction, scheduled for December 19 in Dubai, is anticipated to be intense, with numerous high-profile players expected to be released.

In IPL 2023, Curran played all 14 games, scoring 276 runs with one fifty. However, his bowling performance was disappointing for PBKS, securing just 10 wickets with an economy rate over 10, impacting the team adversely in crucial matches.

Curran even captained Punjab Kings in some games when Shikhar Dhawan was injured, making his potential release a significant and risky decision. Despite being the priciest player in the last edition due to his T20 World Cup 2022 performances, a resurgence in form could make him a valuable asset in the upcoming season.
