The Afghanistan Cricket Board has confirmed that Rashid Khan, a prominent cricketer, underwent a minor lower-back surgery in the UK and is expected to fully recover. The statement mentioned that Rashid has been temporarily rested for recovery after the surgery, which was performed by renowned Surgeon Dr. James Alibone.

Rashid Khan’s Big Bash League team, the Adelaide Strikers, announced his upcoming minor surgery. Tim Nielsen, GM of Cricket at Adelaide Strikers, expressed that Rashid, a cherished member and fan favorite for seven years, will be greatly missed during the upcoming summer BBL season. The Strikers are supportive of Rashid’s treatment to ensure his long-term involvement in the game.

With Rashid’s absence, the Strikers’ management is actively exploring replacement options for the upcoming season, and a replacement player will be announced in due course. While there’s no official date for Rashid’s full recovery, the minor nature of the injury suggests he aims to return for the T20I against India in January 2024. Unfortunately, Rashid will miss the start of the Big Bash League commencing on December 7.
