Rohit Sharma’s bat has remained quiet in IPL 2025. After playing in the T20 World Cup final last year, this is his first T20 tournament, but he has struggled to score runs. In the 18th season of IPL, Rohit has played three innings so far and has managed to score only 21 runs in total. He has now broken a 15-year-old unwanted record for the lowest aggregate score after the first three innings of an IPL season.
Played as an Impact Substitute
Rohit’s form has been so concerning that on Monday, against Kolkata Knight Riders, he was brought in as an impact substitute and did not take the field for fielding. He returned to T20 cricket after 267 days through IPL, but his comeback has not gone as planned. Last season, he also lost the captaincy of Mumbai Indians. His performance this season has also been underwhelming. In his last 10 IPL innings, Rohit has scored only 141 runs, with just one score above 20—a 68-run knock against Lucknow last season. His last 10 IPL innings scores are: 13, 8, 0, 68, 19, 4, 11, 4, 8, and 6 runs.
Second-Lowest Aggregate Score After Three Innings
Rohit’s total of 21 runs in the first three innings of IPL 2025 is his second-lowest aggregate score in an IPL season. He broke his own record from 2010 when he had scored just 33 runs in his first three innings. His worst-ever IPL start was in 2017 when he managed only 9 runs in his first three innings. In contrast, in 2018, he had scored 44 runs in his first three innings.

Dismissed for a Duck Once in IPL 2025
Rohit began his IPL 2025 campaign with a duck against Chennai Super Kings. He then managed 8 runs against Gujarat Titans and 13 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Mumbai Indians didn’t suffer due to his low score against KKR, as MI secured a comfortable 8-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 117, Mumbai Indians reached the target in just 12.5 overs with two wickets down. Ryan Rickelton remained unbeaten on 62, while Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 27. This was also MI’s second-fastest chase of a 100+ target in IPL history.
