As Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan struggled in their recent matches against New Zealand, Karim and Sodhi spoke up about the team’s major flaw. The Kiwis may have won the opening contest by 21 runs, but India managed to secure a narrow win in the second match with a last-over thriller.

“Our top order just isn’t cutting it in this series,” Karim stated. “We’re too dependent on Suryakumar Yadav and it’s starting to hurt us.” Sodhi echoed these sentiments, adding “If Suryakumar doesn’t perform, we’re in trouble. We need to spread out the responsibility and not rely so heavily on one player.”

Despite the criticism, there’s no denying Suryakumar’s T20I prowess. With 243 runs in five games, a strike rate of 150, and one century and fifty under his belt, it’s clear why he’s so crucial to the team. However, Karim and Sodhi believe it’s time for India to break the over-dependence habit and find a more balanced approach to T20 success.
