As India continues to dominate the cricket world with their impressive bench strength, former Pakistani player Kamran Akmal points the finger at his own country’s cricket board for their lack of depth. Under the leadership of Rahul Dravid, the Men in Blue have solidified their reputation for having a wealth of talented players, with experts claiming India could even field 2-3 international teams.
In contrast, arch-rivals Pakistan have struggled to solidify their preferred XI, with constant changes to the team throughout 2022. Akmal attributes this to the PCB’s decision to end departmental cricket, which he believes is the main reason behind the present team’s lack of depth.
When asked if Pakistan holds the potential to field 2-3 international teams like India, Akmal took a dig at his own country and said, “First, at least make one team properly. Before 2019, I would have said yes because of the domestic circuit we had. Departmental cricket has given Pakistan so many great players. Since it has stopped, we are finding it difficult to make one good team.”
