Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally broken his silence on the marriage rumours linked to him and tennis star Sania Mirza. There were reports in various social media posts that Shami and Sania are going to get married and not only this, the pictures of both were tampered with. However, later Sania’s father also denied it and called it a mere rumour. Sania’s father had appealed to the fans not to spread such news. Now Shami himself has also broken his silence on this matter.
Shami reprimanded fans
Recently, in a conversation with journalist Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, when Shami was asked about the rumours, he reprimanded those responsible for spreading such news online. The fast bowler asked people to avoid spreading too much lies on social media and even said that such memes can entertain, but they can also be harmful. He said, ‘I urge everyone to be responsible with social media and avoid spreading such baseless news. It is strange and what is there in it? It has been done forcefully but what to do?
Shami said – If you open the phone, you see your own photo. But I want to say only one thing that no one should be dragged like this. I agree that memes are for your joke, but they are related to someone’s life. So you should make memes after thinking carefully. Today you are not a verified page, your address is not there, no one knows you, then you can speak. If these are related to someone’s life then you should definitely think about it and then share such things. These people share memes from unverified pages and get away with saying everything.
Shami said, ‘I want to say only one thing, if you have the guts, then say it from a verified page, then we will tell you. It is very easy to pull someone else’s leg. Achieve success, raise your level. Then I will believe that you are a good person.’ Shami also dismissed a strange claim made by former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq against Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh during the T20 World Cup 2024. Inzamam indirectly said that the left-arm fast bowler was tampering with the ball.
Inzamam had said this about Arshdeep
Referring to the Indian bowling against Australia, Inzamam had said, ‘Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. Isn’t it too early for reverse swing to happen with the new ball? This means that the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open to see these things. If Pakistani bowlers were doing this, it would have been a big issue, whereas we know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means that the ball was tampered with.’
Shami reprimanded Inzamam
Shami, who took the most wickets in the ODI World Cup 2023, has reacted strongly to this. Shami himself was accused of strange things by Pakistan during the 2023 World Cup. Former Pakistan player Hasan Raza had then said that India was getting different types of balls and a device was installed in it and that was the reason why Shami was getting extra swing. Then Shami had advised Hasan Raza to improve and now in the case of Arshdeep too, Shami gave a befitting reply and said.
I had said in an interview earlier also that I will cut the ball from the middle and show whether there is any device or not. Pakistan has just presented another example. They said how can Arshdeep Singh get reverse swing? I just want to say one thing to Inzamam bhai, I respect him a lot. If you do the same thing, isn’t it ball tampering? Those who perform well against him will be his target. India and Pakistan are arch rivals.
Shami said, ‘Being a former great player, I did not expect such statements from him. I can’t even imagine that he can say such a thing. Even Wasim Akram said that how the umpire gives you the ball and it is not possible to put any equipment in it. This kind of cartoon is not good. These statements are to fool people.’
