Not Just Rohit, But This Former Indian Player Was Also Dropped While Being The Captain

Team India captain Rohit Sharma was dropped in the Sydney Test match against Australia. Earlier Rohit Sharma had captained Team India in Melbourne. However, due to poor form, Rohit Sharma did not get a place in Team India. Earlier this had happened with India's S Venkataraghavan as well.

Team India Captain Rohit Sharma has been dropped from the playing eleven in the Sydney Test match against Australia. Jasprit Bumrah took over the command of Team India in place of Rohit. At the time of the toss, Bumrah said that our captain himself withdrew his name and he has been given a break, but the truth is that the team management did not want Rohit Sharma to play the Sydney Test match. Because Rohit Sharma flopped in batting in this entire series. In this way, despite being the captain, Rohit Sharma was dropped from the playing eleven.

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma Dropped

However, it is very rare that a player is kept out of the playing eleven while being the captain. This is only the second time in Indian cricket that this has happened with a captain. Before Rohit Sharma, this had also happened with former Indian captain S Venkataraghavan when he was dropped from the playing eleven due to his poor performance.

Venkataraghavan was forced to serve water

S Venkataraghavan, who took 1390 wickets with his spin bowling in first class cricket, was made the captain of Team India against West Indies in the year 1974-75. The West Indies team had come to India for a tour. Venkataraghavan was given the captaincy in the second match of the series, but his performance in this match was very poor. He was able to take only 1 wicket in the match, due to which the Indian team had to face a crushing defeat.

After this incident, Venkataraghavan was dropped from the team while being the captain and in the next three matches, Venkataraghavan was forced to serve water as the 12th player. This is the same Venkataraghavan who captained India in the first World Cup. Venkataraghavan captained India in 5 Tests and 7 ODIs.
