The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team faced a significant defeat, losing by 110 runs to Charith Asalanka’s Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI of the series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 7 (Wednesday). This loss marked a 2-0 series defeat for India, their first bilateral series loss in the 50-over format in 27 years. Former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed took the opportunity to troll both the Indian team and their head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
Tanvir Ahmed Trolls Team India
Tanvir Ahmed, known for his frequent critiques of Harbhajan Singh and Team India, particularly regarding their stance on not traveling to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, once again aimed his comments at the Indian team following their series loss to Sri Lanka. Ahmed’s comments seem to be aimed at keeping himself in the spotlight by criticizing the Indian team.
Rohit Sharma on the Series Loss
Team India faced consistent challenges across all three ODIs. Despite strong starts from Rohit Sharma, the rest of the batting lineup struggled, failing to chase targets below 250 runs in each game. In the third ODI, Sri Lanka posted 248/7, then bowled out India for 138, securing a 110-run victory. After the match, Rohit Sharma maintained an optimistic outlook, addressing the areas needing improvement.
“I don’t think it is a concern (spin problems). But it is something we have to look at individually and as a game plan. It is a joke; when you are playing for India, there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain, there is no chance of that. But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions and went with the combinations, there are also guys who need to be looked at, and hence the changes. There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time. These things happen; a series loss is not the end of the world. You will lose an odd series here and there, but it is about how you come back after the loss,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.
