Former India head coach Rahul Dravid is expected to replace legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara as the new coach of Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League season. Dravid, who is not currently affiliated with any other franchise, is likely to return to his former team, the Royals. According to Cricbuzz, his return to the Sanju Samson-led franchise is almost certain, as he is the leading candidate for the role.
This potential change comes as Kumar Sangakkara is being considered for a new position with the ECB as England’s Head Coach, following Matthew Mott’s recent departure after two years in the role. Although Sangakkara mentioned that the ECB has not yet approached him, he did not dismiss the possibility of taking up the position. The ECB is reportedly giving serious consideration to Sangakkara for the role.
In an interview with English media, Sangakkara stated:
“Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such. I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there. I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling, and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years.”
