Ravindra Jadeja garnered attention from national selectors with a stellar all-round performance in the 2008–09 Ranji Trophy, amassing 42 wickets and 739 runs. This led to his inclusion in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he made his international debut on February 8, 2009, scoring an unbeaten 60 in the final match, despite India’s loss.

Jadeja faced criticism for his batting pace during the 2009 World Twenty20, but he secured his place in the ODI team later that year. Notably, in the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Cuttack in December 2009, he claimed four wickets, earning him the Man of the Match award.

Making a comeback in the Indian ODI side in 2013, Jadeja showcased resilience by scoring 78 and taking 2/42 against England at The Oval. Despite India’s defeat, he was named the Player of the Match.

His exceptional performances continued, playing a crucial role in India’s historic 4–0 Test series win against Australia in 2013. Jadeja’s impressive haul of 24 wickets, including dismissing Michael Clarke five times, established him as a valuable all-rounder.

In Tests, Jadeja showcased his batting prowess, scoring his maiden fifty in July 2014 against England. His valuable partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar saved the match for India.

Selected for the 2015 Cricket World Cup despite a shoulder injury, Jadeja took 9 wickets. His subsequent omission from the Indian team after a poor performance in the ODI series in Bangladesh was followed by a strong comeback in the 2015–16 Ranji season.

In Tests against South Africa at home, Jadeja played a crucial role, taking 23 wickets and contributing with the bat. He continued to impress in the subsequent series against Australia in 2017, earning both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.

Teaming up with Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja became the first pair of spinners to jointly hold the No. 1 bowler position in ICC Test Rankings. He achieved this milestone in 2017.

Jadeja’s Test performances continued to shine, reaching 200 wickets in October 2019. In August 2021, he became the fifth Indian and the fifth-fastest player to score 2,000 runs and take 200 wickets in Tests.

His remarkable achievements extended to ODIs, where in March 2019, he became the third Indian cricketer to score 2,000 runs and take 150 wickets.

In a Test match against Sri Lanka on March 5, 2022, Jadeja broke a 35-year-old record by scoring an unbeaten 175* and took 9/87 in the match, leading India to victory by an innings and 222 runs.

Jadeja’s overseas success continued with his first century in the fifth Test match of the 2022 Indian tour of England.

Named as India’s vice-captain for the ODI series against the West Indies in July 2022, Jadeja’s stellar contributions solidified his status as a key player.

Selected for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Jadeja unfortunately missed the tournament due to a severe knee injury. After a five-month recovery, he returned to the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, achieving a five-wicket haul on February 9, 2023, in Nagpur.
