RCB revealed the former South African skipper, Faf du Plessis as their new captain for IPL 2022 at the RCB unboxing event on 12th March 2022.
RCB snatched Faf out of Chennai Super Kings’ jaw at the IPL Mega Auction 2022 by splurging Rupees 7 crores to rope him in for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Virat Kohli relinquished his captaincy at the end of last season, and fans were eagerly waiting for the franchise to announce the new captain of the franchise in IPL 2022.
While mentioning that he is a very good friend, Kohli wished Faf du Plessis the best of luck. He said that it will be exciting to play under his leadership in the upcoming season in a video posted on RCB’s official Instagram handle.

Virat Kohli captained Royal Challengers Bangalore in 140 games, winning 64 and losing 69. Faf du Plessis will be the 7th captain for the franchise after Rahul Dravid, Kevin Pietersen, Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Kohli and Shane Watson.
Faf du Plessis has all the necessary experience of a T20 captain. He has captained the Proteans in international T20 matches and led various franchises in different leagues around the globe. In 79 T20 games captained by him, he has a winning percentage of 55.76 with 43 wins and 34 losses.
Du Plessis has scored 2935 runs in 100 IPL matches played so far, with an impressive average of almost 35 and a strike rate of 131. In the last season of IPL, he guided CSK toward tournament victory by scoring 633 runs.
RCB will play their first game of IPL 2022 on 27th March against Punjab Kings at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
