Sikandar Raza Domestic & T20 Career

Following the revamp of Zimbabwe’s domestic cricket structure in 2009, Sikandar Raza began his journey in first-class cricket, representing the Mashonaland Eagles. His debut in this format dates back to April 12, 2007, playing for Northerns against Easterns during the 2007 Logan Cup. Raza proved to be a successful first-class cricketer, boasting a top score of 146.

Transitioning to List A cricket, Raza initially played for Northerns before switching to Mashonaland Eagles. He made his List A debut in 2007 and later ventured into Twenty20 cricket, debuting for the Southern Rocks in 2010 against the Desert Vipers. Raza swiftly established himself as a T20 specialist, emerging as the leading run-scorer in the 2010 Stanbic Bank T20 Competition.

A standout moment in Raza’s career came during the Metbank Pro40 Championship Final in 2010, where he scored a crucial 44 runs for Southern Rocks, leading them to victory against Mid West Rhinos. This performance caught the attention of selectors, and in January 2011, he achieved his career-best List A score of 80 runs.

Raza’s consistent performances earned him a place in Zimbabwe’s preliminary squad for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Although he didn’t make the final squad, his impactful performances continued, including a stellar partnership with Chamu Chibhabha, setting the stage for a significant victory for Southern Rocks.

Despite facing citizenship hurdles, Raza’s talent couldn’t be ignored, leading to his inclusion in training squads and impressive performances, such as scoring 93 runs off just 48 balls against Matabeleland Tuskers.

Raza’s cricketing journey expanded globally, with appearances in various T20 leagues, including the Global T20 Canada tournament, Mzansi Super League T20, Bangladesh Premier League, Euro T20 Slam, Caribbean Premier League, and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

His recent exploits include being drafted by Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and being bought by the Punjab Kings in the IPL, where he made a memorable debut by scoring a half-century and became the first Zimbabwean player to do so in the IPL. Raza’s versatility and impactful performances continue to make him a valuable asset in the world of cricket.
