The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce its new central contract next month which was delayed due to elections and the appointment of a new selection committee.
While some players are set to receive a major promotion, India’s veteran batter Shikar Dhawan may unfortunately miss out on a central contract.
Shikhar Dhawan has not been seen in the ODI team since Ishan Kishan blasted a double-ton against Sri Lanka. Moreover, with Rohit Sharma being the captain and Shubman Gill performing consistently, it seems Shikhar Dhawan is not in the plans for Cricket World Cup 2023.
Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill could receive a significant promotion in the new central contract. Pandya is expected to be promoted to Grade A.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also decided to grant a 10-20% raise to players in each grade.
“Yes, it is under consideration. See, every 5 years, the annual salary increases. Our players are also due for a raise. There is a lot of cricket being played at the moment, and I think the players deserve it. But it is a collective decision and everyone has to come on board. But if you compare it with England’s salaries, our players earn more from match fees,” a senior BCCI official said to InsideSport.
