Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were left out of the squad for the T20s against Sri Lanka. The BCCI said that the Indian team is trying to manage the workload of senior players as the ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played in India in October 2023.

But the sources BCCI confirmed that the cricket board is trying to construct a completely new team for India in T20s without senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. There were also rumours that Hardik Pandya has held a secret meeting with Jay Shah in which it was decided that he would be captaining the Indian T20 side in future.
