Nathan Ellis made his IPL 2022 debut for Punjab Kings against Delhi Capitals. However, the bowler couldn’t make an impact in the low-scoring match where Punjab barely managed to score 119 runs in 20 overs. In response, Delhi Capitals thrashed Punjab Kings bowling by chasing the total within 11 overs.
But, Nathan Ellis has already shown the world what he is capable of doing. Everyone still remembers his accurate yorkers for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad which made Punjab Kings victorious by 5 runs. The bowler was also named among the three reserve players for Australia’s T20 2021 World Cup squad.
Punjab Kings bought the Australian pacer, Nathan Ellis, in the mega auction for 75 lakh rupees. Although, every bowler was smashed by Delhi Capitals duo Prithvi Shaw & David Warner. But couldn’t capitalize against Nathan Ellis who had the lowest economy in the match of 7.5 for Punjab Kings.
What distinguishes the 27-year-old right-arm fast Australian bowler from others is the fact that he is the only bowler to take a hat-trick on his debut T20i match. Yes, a hattrick on a debut match. Every bowler dreams of picking 3 or 5 wickets in his debut match but a hattrick is just mind-boggling.
Nathan Ellis made his T20i debut against Bangladesh in November 2021 where he picked up the hattrick against Bangladesh by dismissing Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman & Mahedi Hasan to restrict Bangladesh to 127. Yet, Bangladesh won the match and series against Australia to create history by winning their first-ever series against Australia across formats. Unfortunately, Nathan Ellis’s hat trick couldn’t help his team win the match.
Since then the Australian bowler has accumulated appreciation to become the cynosure of cricket experts which landed him a new contract from his former team Punjab Kings in IPL 2022.
Nathan Ellis does seem to make an impact in IPL but hasn’t been given a handful of opportunities. Yet, in his 4 IPL matches, he holds a wicket and economy close to 8 which is good in this batting paradise tournament.
Cricreads believe Nathan Ellis will be a future star in IPL as well as for Australia if he is given the right number of chances to prove himself.
