World Test Championship Points Table: How IND vs ENG will Change the Rankings?

World Test Championship points table for the period 2021-2023 is currently changing quickly with many Test matches being played. The recent Test series between England and New Zealand has helped push England a little further and the champions New Zealand a bit lower in the rankings.

World Test Championship points table has become an interesting ride, with Bangladesh also defeating New Zealand earlier in the year. However, West Indies have broken their momentum to push them to the 9th spot in the rankings. The current Test mace holders, New Zealand, are placed in 7th position in the points table.

India currently sits at the third position in the points table despite having the most points due to the percentage points system that ICC uses for determining the ranks in the World Test Championship table. England, who recently whitewashed New Zealand, is still at the 8th position in the points table due to their bad performance in the Test series in 2021 and early 2022.

Australia takes the top spot right now, followed by South Africa. In the fourth position, we have Sri Lanka followed closely by Pakistan. West Indies has risen to the sixth spot after defeating Bangladesh in the recently concluded Test series.

In the World Test Championship, a team gets 12 points for winning a match. In case of a draw, both of the teams are awarded 4 points each which rises to 6 points if the game is a tie. For slow over rates, ICC is well within its rights to dock off points of any team.

How will IND vs ENG affect the ranking?

The 5th and final Test match that was postponed in 2021 will be played from the 1st of July to bring a conclusion to the series. The match is an important one as India will have the opportunity to get closer to second-place South Africa while England will have an opportunity to come closer to the current champions New Zealand in the points table.
