Shreyas Iyer recently complained of back pain in the 4th India vs Australia and did not come out to bat. He was eventually taken to the hospital where it was adjudged that his back injury has not healed yet and he will require treatment to get completely healed.
Shreyas Iyer is likely to be ruled out of the tournament as he is an integral part of the Indian team and BCCI is no mood to let players get iniyred while playing IPL as World Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in India. Even if Iyer recovers midway through the tournament he is expected to sit out.
Andre Russell has been with Kolkata Knight Riders for quite a few years. The West Indian all-rounder has been a match winner for the KKR in IPL for many years. In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell can lead the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Another captaincy contender is Sunil Narine. He is similar to Russell has been a match winner for KKR. Narine is calm headed and can be the perfect captain choice. KKR can also go with Nitish Rana or Shakib Al Hasan.
