Jasprit Bumrah, the talented Indian pacer, is set to make his comeback to competitive cricket in the upcoming T20 series against Ireland. After recovering from his back surgery, Bumrah has regained full fitness and is currently training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. His inclusion in the India vs Ireland matches will serve as a crucial step in regaining match fitness ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup 2023.

Bumrah’s absence from the cricketing scene for the past year has been a cause for concern for fans and the Indian cricket team. However, his progress at the NCA has been encouraging, with the pacer bowling 8-10 overs daily at full intensity. The final decision on his participation in the India vs Ireland T20 series will be made by the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.

The timeline of Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and recovery is as follows:

    • July 2022: Bumrah reported a back problem after the 2nd ODI against England, which was later diagnosed as a re-emergence of a previous back injury.
    • August 2022: He missed the ODI series in West Indies and returned to the NCA for rehabilitation.
    • August 2022: Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup due to insufficient recovery time.
    • September 2022: He rushed to make a comeback for the South Africa series but aggravated the injury after bowling just six overs in two T20s.
    • October 2022: Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup.
    • November 2022: He missed the New Zealand tour.
    • December 2022: Bumrah was absent from the Bangladesh tour.
    • January 2023: He experienced stiffness in his back and missed the Sri Lanka ODI series.
    • February 2023: The pacer was ruled out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
    • March 2023: Bumrah underwent back surgery in New Zealand and commenced his rehabilitation.
    • June 2023: He continued with his recovery process and missed the WTC Final.
    • July 2023: Bumrah has resumed bowling at full capacity at the NCA and is preparing for his comeback in the IND vs IRE T20 series.

Although the nature of Bumrah’s injury requires careful monitoring, the progress he has shown at the NCA has been positive. With his participation in the upcoming practice matches, a thorough assessment of his fitness will be made before finalizing his return to competitive cricket. The Indian team and fans are eagerly awaiting Bumrah’s comeback, hoping that he will make a significant impact in the matches against Ireland.
