Rishabh Pant has been very consistent in Test Cricket. However, he failed to maintain the same consistency in White-Ball Cricket this year. Before his terrible accident, BCCI and the Indian Cricket Team were not happy with Rishabh Pant because of his fitness issues.
After getting dropped from the Bangladesh Tour due to a back injury, he was also dropped from both the squads (T20I & ODI) for the Series against Sri Lanka starting in January 2023. Reports suggest that he had fitness issues with his knee. After his major accident, it would be really difficult for pant to continue his wicket keeping.
BCCI issues with Rishabh Pant before his accident
Just before his accident which took place on 30th December, BCCI had asked Rishabh Pant to report to National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and get his fitness issues sought out as early as possible. Selectors & BCCI’s message to Pant was clear, until or unless his form and fitness return, he will not be picked for the white ball team.
In T20Is, he had already lost his place to Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, the preferred choices now.
In ODI Cricket, Ishan Kishan, who is in red-hot form, will be picked ahead of him even after his recovery from the accident. Another roadblock now for Pant would be KL Rahul who off-late has been keeping wickets in ODI.
