IPL 2022, GT VS SRH: Umran Shines but GT Triumphs

GT vs SRH was an enthralling game that went until the last ball in which Gujarat Titans ultimately emerged as the winner.

Titans needed 22 off the last over, and three sixes from Rashid Khan and one from Rahul Tewatia ensured that Gujarat took the glory.

GT VS SRH Highlights:

Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to field first at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Playing XIs:

GT: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya (c), Abhinav Manohar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami

SRH: Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shashank Singh, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan

SRH Inning:

Sunrisers did not have a great start as Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi scored only 5 and 16 respectively. However, Abhishek Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with his stroke play.

Sharma and Aiden Markram combined to form a 96 run stand for the third wicket. Sharma scored 65 off 42, while Markram smashed 56 off 40. Nevertheless, SRH struggled with both their set batters dismissed.

In death overs, Shashank Singh provided Sunrisers with the much-needed momentum. He smashed 25 off 6 to take his team 195/6 in 20 overs.

GT Inning:

Gujarat Titas had a good partnership at the top in which Wriddhiman Shah played the aggressor. Shah kept the required run rate under control while Gill struggled to find timing on the other end.

Umran Malik ended Gill’s stay at the crease and sent back the GT captain Harddik Panda as well to bring SRH back into the game. He also dismissed Shah, Miller and Abhinav Manohar to complete his fifer. Umran was the only bowler from SRH to take wickets in the GT vs SRH contest.

GT needed 56 runs in the last four overs with Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan on the crease. Tewaita went on the offensive and kept his team’s hopes alive till the last over.

GT required 22 off the last over. Tewatia smashed six on the first ball and took a single on the next one. Rashid smashed the third ball for six, and the equation was suddenly down to 9 off 3. 2 consecutive sixes on the final two balls ensured that GT won the game.
