IPL 2025 to Start on 23 March- BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla Reveals

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to commence on 23 March, as announced by Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shukla shared this information with the media on Sunday following the BCCI’s general meeting.

The meeting, held on 12 January, also saw significant administrative changes within the BCCI. Devajit Saikia was named the new BCCI secretary, succeeding Jay Shah, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was elected as the treasurer. Shukla also mentioned that the Champions Trophy squad discussions are scheduled for January 18-19. Additionally, the venues for the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be disclosed soon.

However, there is some uncertainty regarding the IPL start date. While Shukla confirmed 23 March, other sources suggest the tournament might begin earlier. Reports from ESPNCricinfo claim the IPL could start on March 21, while a BCCI insider quoted by PTI hinted at a possible start date of 20 or 21 March.

Meanwhile, a review meeting was conducted on Saturday to evaluate India’s disappointing performances in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the ODI series against New Zealand. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw India suffer a 1-3 defeat in Australia, followed by a 0-3 loss at home to New Zealand. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and former player Gautam Gambhir participated in the discussions.

“There was a thorough analysis of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy results and the steps needed for improvement. However, the new BCCI leadership is unlikely to make any hasty decisions,” a source familiar with the developments revealed to PTI under conditions of anonymity.
