Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli to Retire? What ODI World Cup 2023 Final Loss Brings

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may retire soon

Rohit Sharma led Team India failed to achieve the biggest glory in the cricketing world. The team which is the home to the legendary Virat Kohli could not win the final against the mighty Aussies on 19th November 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Australian flag was hailed high and the Pat Cummins led men celebrated with all their happiness and power in front of an empty stadium as everyone left after being stunned by the loss. The World Cup 2023 Final loss has left a lot of us traumatized and even the players are feeling the heat.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are respectively 35 and 37 year old. Rohit Sharma, in particular is on the last legs of his international career. Unfortunately for him the World Cup final just did not go his way. He is expected to retire from the international cricket before the next World Cup which is scheduled to be played in 2027 in South Africa.

However, the Indian skipper will definitely play the upcoming T20I World Cup if given the chance by BCCI. The Indian Board is not too keen about having Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20I set-up. There is also 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. That could really be the last hurrah for Rohit Sharma in the international cricket.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is expected to hang his boots somewhere close to the 2027 Cricket World Cup. He will be 39 years old when the next ODI World Cup will start. It seems unlikely that he will play the tournament. He could also bid India goodbye after the Champions Trophy in 2025.
