Shocking: Ben Stokes Announces Retirement from ODIs

The England all-rounder often touted as the best multi-faceted player of this generation has announced that he will retire from the OneDay Internationals on Tuesday. Ben Stokes revealed in his retirement post on Instagram that he will don the blue jersey for England in the 50-over cricket for the last time against South Africa on 19th July 2022. 

Ben Stokes was recently appointed the skipper of the English white-ball side, and his camaraderie with coach Brendon McCullum has transformed England’s team in Test cricket. The 2019 World Cup hero has shockingly decided to quit ODIs at the peak of his abilities. The cricketing world is in uproar after his sudden announcement that took everyone by surprise. England has lost their second superstar in OneDay Internationals in the last couple of weeks. Earlier, World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan had also left the cricket due to incessant injuries.

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli commented on the retirement post of Ben Stokes. He wrote that Stokes was the most competitive cricketer he ever played against in ODIs. Stuart Broad also commented and told his teammate to enjoy his final game on Tuesday. Many other famous personalities and fans wished Stokes the best of luck for his future endeavours as well.

Ben Stokes has played 103 matches for England so far in his ODI career. He has scored 2892 runs at an average of 39.6. His bowling stats are unbelievable as well, and he picked 74 wickets in the matches he has played in 50 overs cricket. Stokes has 3 hundred to his name as well. He would be remembered as the match-winner for England in this format.
