Stuart Broad concedes 35 runs against Bumrah to bowl the most expensive over ever in Test cricket

Stuart Broad, the veteran English pacer who has taken more than 400 wickets in Test cricket, was reduced to a state of mockery by Jasprit Bumrah in the first inning of the rescheduled Test match between India and England. Bumrah collected 29 runs by himself while Broad gave away 6 extra runs in the most expensive over ever bowled in the history of Test cricket. Earlier, the record for most runs conceded in an over in Test cricket was held by RJ Peterson, who went for 28 runs against Brian Lara in 2003.

Here’s how Stuart Broad conceded 35 runs in the most expensive over in Test cricket:

The first ball of the over was a short ball which Jasprit Bumrah took head-on. He pulled it towards the fine leg, where Zak Crawley ran to his left to collect the ball, but ultimately he failed to grasp the ball, and it reached the boundary ropes.

On the next ball, Broad again tried a bouncer to scare the Indian captain; however, he was too enthusiastic as the bowl bounced over the head of both the batter and the keeper and the umpire declared it as a wide alongside a four.

Broad did not learn from his mistakes and bowled another bumper, and Jasprit Bumrah was in no mood to back off as he took the bouncer head-on. The ball took a thick edge and flew over the keeper’s head for a maximum. The umpire rubbed salt on England’s wound by announcing that the bowl was a no-ball.

The next ball was a full toss which Bumrah cleanly sent to the fences for a four.

The fourth legal delivery of the over was again a bouncer, and Bumrah smashed it at midwicket for a four while falling down on the pitch.

The following ball was again a bouncer on the hips of Bumrah. It was struck cleanly for a six over long leg.

On the last ball, Broad managed to bowl a pin-point Yorker, but Bumrah successfully negated it and completed a single to end up with 35 runs from Broad’s over.
