  • Women’s CWC 2022: India Thrashed Bangladesh by 110 Runs

India Women defetaed Bangladesh Women by a huge margin of 110 runs to secure their fourth victory of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 at Seddon Park, Hamilton in New Zealand. India have climbed up a spot to land on the 3rd position in the points table above West Indies Women after improving their net run-rate massively with a thumping victory.

Under huge pressure to perform in this match India Women opted to bat first to get out of the crux in the tournament. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana did exactly what they are known for, the duo gave India a quick fire start and displayed an urgency in scoring rate which was missing in the earlier matches.

Shefali scored a run a ball 42 with 6 fours and a gigantic six. The opening duo formed a formidable partnership of 74 runs which was broken by Nahdia Akter by dismissing Mandhana at 30. Mandhana was succeeded by Yastika Bhatia, who was the star of the game for India with the bat. She notched up a half-century in 80 balls to consolidate the Indian inning.

Mithali Raj once again slumped after showcasing a brilliant batting display against Australia in India Women’s previous outing. Ritu Moni dismissed her for a golden duck, and went on to pick crucial wickets for Bangladesh Women, including Yastika and Shefali.

Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar proved again that they are able to play the role of finishers for India Women. Rana scored 27 off 23, while Vastrakar notched up 30 off 33 deliveries. India Women finished with 229/7 in 50 overs to put up a fighting total on the board.

Chasing 230, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals to deny themselves any chance of securing the victory. After a dismal display of bowling against Australia, India Women were on a mission to prove their mettle in this important game. Sneh Rana, the Indian sensation in World Cup picked up 4 wickets, while Jhulan Goswami, the veteran accounted for 2 Bangladeshi batters.

India Women restricted Bangladesh on 119 in about 40 overs to win the match by 110 runs. Yastika Bhatia was named player of the match for her enterprising knock.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Australia Thwart South Africa by 5 Wickets

Australia Women have registered their 6th consecutive win at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in New Zealand to retain the title of table toppers. Australia has already qualified for the semi-final with the win over India Women in their previous outing. Currently, no team has posed a threat to their superiority in the tournament.

Australia Women won the toss and preferred to bowl first on the back of an extraordinary chase against Indian Women. South Africa Women batted quite handsomely and posted a competitive total of 271/5 on the scoreboard. Wolvaarrdt and Sune Luus brought individual half-centuries to put Proteas in a commanding position at the halfway mark in the match.

Wolvaardt fell only 10 short of what would have been a magnificent hundred against the top-class bowling attack of Australia Women. She scored a vital 90 runs off 134 deliveries to power the South African total. On the other hand, Sune Luus played an enterprising knock of 52 off 51 deliveries, comprising 6 boundaries.

Marizanne Kapp once again announced herself as an able all-rounder who can finish strongly in the death overs. She notched an unbeaten 30 off just 17 deliveries to form a formidable 43* run stand for the 6th wicket with C Tryon. Five of the seven bowlers they tried picked one wicket each for Australia Women, with Alana King being the most economical.

Chasing a mammoth 272, Australia Women lost Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy with only 45 runs on the scoreboard. The Australian was in a precarious situation, but Meg Lanning, the Australian captain, brought them out of it and dominated the entire chase with her exquisite strokeplay. Lanning scored an unbeaten 135* off 130 deliveries, including 15 fours and a massive six to take her side comfortably over the finish line.

Australia Women chased down the total with more than four overs and five wickets to spare. For South Africa, Ismail and Tryon accounted for two wickets each. The Proteas have conceded their first loss of the tournament but still sits at number 2 in the points table with 4 wins in 5 matches.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Pakistan Crush Windies by 8 Wickets

Pakistan Women defeated West Indies Women to register their first win since the 2009 Women’s Cricket World Cup. The match was cut short to 20 overs per side due to the incessent rain for almost three hours.

Pak Women captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and opted to bowl first, citing the rain as a significant reason behind her decision.

Invited to bat first, West Indies Women looked clueless during their batting stint. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals due to an unneeded urgency displayed by their batters.

West Indies batters were rattled by the relentless Pakistani bowling attack, which kept persisting with suitable line and length.

Nida Dar was the pick of the bowlers; she dismissed four West Indian batters, including the dangerous Deandra Dottin and gave away only 10 runs in her quota of four overs.

Nida was well complimented by Anam Amin, who remained wicketless but gave away only 6 runs in the four overs she bowled. Amin also bowled an exceptional maiden over in the match that was converted into a T20 from 50 over.

West Indies could only manage a paltry 89 runs for the loss of wickets in 20 overs, ultimately setting up a meagre target of 90 runs for Pakistan Women.

Chasing 90, Pakistan never looked in trouble because Muneeba Ali, the opener, notched up 37 off 43 at the front to deny West Indies any chance of staking their claim.

Pakistan lost only two wickets and triumphed with 7 balls to spare. However, Pakistan still sits at the bottom of the table with 1 win in 5 matches, while West Indies retain their third position in the points table with 3 wins out of 6 games.

  • SA VS BAN: Proteas Re-established Dominance Against Bangladesh

After suffering defeat for the first time against Bangladesh at home in ODI, South Africa came back hard to register a thumping win in the 2nd ODI at Johannesburg.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first to recreate the magic from 1st ODI but failed miserably in their attempt and could only muster 194 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs.

Here’s how the match panned out:

Bangladesh lost the initiative earlier in the innings, with both Rabada and Ngidi wreaking havoc on the Bangladeshi batters.

Ngidi removed the experienced campaigner Tamim to put Bangladesh on the back foot at the start of their innings.

Rabada complimented his bowling partner and dismissed Shakib and Liton Das in quick successions to mount more pressure on the opposition.

Bangladesh could not recover from 23-3 and kept losing wickets at regular intervals to deny themselves any chance of putting up a fighting total on the board.

Rabada ran through the Bangladeshi batting line-up to grab another fifer in ODIs. He gave away only 39 runs in his 10 overs to pick up five crucial wickets.

A bit of resistance from Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan ensured that Bangladesh crossed hundred runs mark. Hossain scored 72 off 107 while Hasan notched up 38 off 49 deliveries.

In reply to Bangladesh’s 194, South Africa cruised through their innings to register a win by 7 wickets.

Quinton de Kock at the top was absolutely destructive; he scored a quick-fire 62 off 41, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. The southpaw snatched away what little hope Bangladesh had.

Kyle Verreynne scored an unbeaten 58* to help his team achieve the target comfortably within 38 overs.

Kagiso Rabada was named player of the match for his incredible bowling performance in the game.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: England Clinch Thriller Against Blackcaps

In a spine-chilling contest at Eden Park, Auckland, England Women defeated New Zealand Women by one wicket in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022.

New Zealand set a below-par target of 204 for England Women, but the Blackcaps bowlers bowled exceptionally well to stretch the match until the very last wicket of England.

    Here’s how the match progressed:

England Women won the toss and invited New Zealand Women to bat first. The Blackcaps started positively with a 61 runs stand for the first wicket between the openers Bates and Devine. The threatening partnership for England was broken by Kate Cross, who was responsible for removing both the openers of New Zealand in the game.

After the fall of the first wicket, New Zealand kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The top four Kiwis got the starts but could not convert them into big ones. Bates scored 22, Devine 41, Kerr 24 and Satterthwaite 24 for the Kiwis. Maddy Green notched up unbeaten 52* off 75, but she did not get the support from the other end. At last, the Blackcaps were bundled out in 48.5 overs for 203 runs.

For England Women, both Cross and Eccelstone accounted for three wickets each, while Charlotte Dean sent two batters back to the dressing room.

Chasing 204, England did not have the greatest of start, losing Danielle Wyatt early in the innings. Both English openers failed to score anything of substance in the match. However, Heather Knight and Natalie Sciver played well in the middle to keep England Women on track to chase down the total.

Natalie Sciver scored 61 off 108, while Knight made 42 off 53. However, the duo’s dismissal opened up the doors for New Zealand as they grabbed some quick wickets to drag the match until the last English pair. England Women found themselves precarious at 196-9 in the 46th over. Anya Shurbsole held her nerves to get England over the finish line to register their second win of the tournament. Hannah Rowe took a fifer for the Kiwis, and Natalie Sciver was named player of the match for her vital knock.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Australia Defeated India in Last-Over Nail-Biter

Australia Women defeated India Women in a last-over thriller at Eden Park, Auckland, by 6 wickets to register their 5th consecutive win of the tournament.

India Women set a total of 277/7 when invited to bat first at the toss by Australian skipper. India fancied their chances with a good score on the board, but Australia Women are at the peak of their performance and somehow managed to overcome the total with 3 balls to spare in the 50th over.

Here’s how the match panned out:

Batting first, India Women lost their openers Mandhana and Shefali early in the innings. However, Yastika and Mithali steadied the ship for India, but their batting strike-rates were not up to the mark. Both of them notched up individual half-centuries but took too many deliveries against an opponent, which chases at a fierce rate.

Mithali Raj took 96 balls for her 68 while Yastika hogged 83 deliveries for 59 runs. At one point looked like finishing under 250, but Harmanpreet Kaur blasted an unbeaten 57* off 47 to take India to a respectable total. Pooja Vastrakar also lent a helping hand to Kaur as she smashed 34 off 28, including two massive sixes.

With the bowl, Darcie Brown was the star for Australia; she picked up three crucial wickets. Alana King also dismissed two batters, including the well-set Indian captain, Mithali Raj.

Australian chase looked extremely comfortable initially, with Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes dominating the proceedings at the top. The duo formed an explosive stand of 121 runs in just 19.2 overs for the first wicket. In her enterprising knock, Alyssa notched up another half-century and scored 72 off 65.

India tried to slow things down a bit in the middle after the dismissal of Healy, but Mag Lanning kept the scoreboard ticking at an acceptable rate to keep the chase under control. However, Lanning was dismissed three short of her hundred by Meghna Singh to bring India Women back into the game.

Due to Ellyse Perry’s slow innings, Australia Women found themselves in an awkward position at the end. Finally, with Beth Mooney and Tahilia Macgrath on the crease, the equation was 8 runs off 6 balls against Jhulan Goswami in the final over. Goswami failed to land her Yorkers and conceded two boundaries in the first three bowls to hand the win to Australia Women.

  • SA VS BAN: Clinical Bangladesh Trumps South Africa

Bangladesh defeated South Africa by assuring 38 runs in the first ODI to gain the lead in the three-match ODI series.

Bangladesh posted a good score of 314/7 on the board in their 50 overs. Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das and Yasir Ali smashed individual half-centuries to propel Bangla total over the psychological 300 runs mark.

In reply, South Africa could only manage 276-10 in 48.5 overs and never really posed a threat against the Bangla bowling line-up. The visitors excelled in all three departments at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

    Here’s how the match progressed:

South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision they ended up regretting at the end of the game.

Batting first, Bangladesh started cautiously with both the openers, Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal, giving due respect to the good deliveries. Tamim and Liton consolidated a solid foundation for the Bangladeshi middle-order to cash in later on in the innings.

The openers constructed a 95 runs stand for Bangladesh, but Tamim’s dismissal brought in a flurry of wickets for South Africa. The Proteas got rid of Das and Musfiqur Rahim in quick succession. With two new batters, Shakib Al Hasan and Yasir Ali, on the crease, it was Proteas’ moment to seize the initiative in the game.

However, Shakib Al Hasan had plans of his own he counterattacked the Proteas bowling line-up to up the ante of Bangla innings. He notched up 77 in just 64 deliveries to propel Bangladesh beyond 300. Yasir Ali played a supporting role in the partnership with Shakib with utmost brilliance and brought up his own individual fifty.

Some late fireworks from Mahmudullah, Hosain and Mehidy Hasan ensured that Bangladesh finished on a great score of 314/7. For South Africa, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj were the picks of the bowlers for dismissing two batters each.

Chasing 315, South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals to deny themselves any chance of being a threat throughout the match. Apart from Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller, no one tried to snatch away the initiative from Bangla bowlers.

Miller scored a quick-fire 79 off 57, while Rassie played a knock of 86 off 98. However, their efforts were not enough to take South Africa over the finish line. Mehidy Hasan dismissed four while Taskin Ahmed accounted for three Proteas batters.

Shakib Al Hasan was named player of the match for his all-round performance in the game.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Windies defeated Bangladesh by 4 Runs in Thriller

West Indies Women defeated Bangladesh Women in a last-over thriller by 4 runs at Bay Oval stadium in New Zealand.

West Indies Women defended 7 runs in the final over against the last Bangladeshi batting pair. Stafanie Taylor, the skipper for West Indies, found the gap between bat and pad of Fariha Trisna on the 3rd ball of the last over of Bangladeshi Innings to win the third match for her side at Women’s World Cup 2022.

West Indies have climbed up to the third position at the points table with three thrilling wins at the tournament, while Bangladesh sits awkwardly at 7th position with only one win in four matches so far.

Here’s how the match panned out

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. They performed exceptionally well with the ball to restrict West Indies Women at 140/9 in 50 overs.

Shemaine Campbelle played an innings of substance on a challenging track to somehow take West Indies to 140. She scored a vital unbeaten 53* runs for the Caribbeans. For Bangladesh, Salma Khatun and Nahida Akhter each took two wickets.

Chasing the total, Bangladesh never looked settled as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Nahida Akhter played a valuable knock of 25* not out, but it was not enough for Bangladesh to win the game. Hayley Mathews dismissed 4 of the Bangladesh batters to be crowned the player of the match. Afy Fletcher and Stafanie Taylor each picked up three wickets to deter the Bangladeshi innings.

    What’s Next

West Indies Women will play their next match at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on 21st March against Pakistan Women, and will look to carry on their winning momentum. On the other hand, Bangladesh Women will face India at the same venue on 22nd March.

  • Women’s CWC 2022: Proteas Defeated Blackcaps in A Nail-Biting Thriller

South Africa Women defeated New Zealand Women in a nail-biting thriller at ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in New Zealand.

The Proteas required 14 runs in the last 2 overs with only 3 wickets to spare. Marizanne Kapp, the South African all-rounder, guided her team to the victory in a close contest.

With 14 required off 12 and the Proteas being 7 wickets down, the match could have gone either way. Devine clean-bowled Ismail on the 2nd ball of the 49th over to push South Africa on the brink of a loss.

However, Kapp kept her nerves calm and collected a boundary on the 4th ball of the 49th over. She then smartly pushed one to long-off to keep strike in the last over.

The equation had come down to 6 off 6 with Marizanne Kapp on strike with Mackay to bowl at her in the final over.

Kapp did not let the match go to the last ball and slogged the first ball of the 50th over to gather a boundary by bisecting mid-wicket and long-on at the boundary.

Marizanne Kapp then pushed for a single on the following ball to reduce the equation to 1 off 4. Winning run was secured by Khaka on the 3rd ball of the 50the over when she managed to push the ball to mid-off for a single.

Kapp repeated her heroics from the last match to make South Africa win four in a row at the Women’s World Cup.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first to post a fighting total of 228-10 in 47.5 overs. Sophie Devine top-scored for them with 93 off 101, while Ismail and Khaka each accounted for 3 Blackcaps batters.

In reply, two South African batters, Wolvaardt and Luus, scored half-centuries but could not bat through until the end. Ultimately it was Marizanne Kapp’s innings of 34 off 35 that helped South Africa cross the finish line.

  • England Humbles India: ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022

England Women has thoroughly outplayed India in all the departments to ensure an uplifting victory by 4 wickets in Match 15th of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022. England comfortably chased down 135 runs in 31.2 overs to stay alive in the tournament after conceding three consecutive defeats in their first three matches. India still failed to avenge the humiliating loss suffered in the finals of the Women’s World Cup 2017.

Here’s how the match panned out:

England Women won the toss and opted to ball first. The decision made by captain Heather Knights proved to be extremely fortunate for the English side as they outbowled the Indian batters in only 36.2 overs.

    India Women Innings:

India entered the match high on confidence after securing a huge victory against the Caribbeans. However, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur could not emulate their herculean efforts from the previous game.

Yastika, who provided a blitzing start against the Windies, could only gather up 8 runs before being trapped leg before by Shrubsole. India Women’s Team skipper Mithali Raj yet again failed to leave an impact in the ongoing tournament. She scored a solitary run in five balls to also become a victim of Shrubsole.

Kate Cross ran out Deepti (0), while Harmanpreet Kaur (14) and Sneh Rana (0) were sent to the pavilion by Charlotte Dean. Richa Ghosh (33) put up a resistance but was unlucky as Sciver made a freakish throw to run her out. Jhulan Goswami (20) tried to provide a surge, but it was already too late for the Indians.

Smriti Mandhan top-scored for India with 35 off 58, while Charlotte Dean picked up four wickets to put England Women in a commanding position. Wickets in quick succession and an absence of a substantial partnership led to India’s abysmal performance with the bat.

    England Women Innings:

England had a few hiccups in the starting phase of their innings. India quickly removed Beaumont and Danielle Wyatt in 3 overs. India fancied their chances a bit by restricting England at 4-2 in 3 overs.

However, Heather Knight (53) and Natalie Sciver (45) formed a 65 run stand for the third wicket to grasp the match entirely out of India Women’s Cricket Team. Knight added another fifty to her tally in her International career as England went on to win the game comfortably with more than 19 overs to spare.
